In that time, Maine dropped from 34th to 41st in terms of population.
One hundred fifteen years ago, we had a population of 742,371. That number had grown by only 585,990 in the 2010 Census.
Vox’s map is inspired by an 1886 chart, which showed that Maine’s population over the previous 90 years — overlapping the Industrial Revolution — increased by nearly seven times.
